Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, the latest version of Microsoft's mobile operating system goes live. Windows Phone Mango boasts improved multi-tasking and a massive of updated social network contact and calender integration features. Microsoft has started making its way to chose Windows Phone owners. Windows Phone Mango is targeting Google Android.

Mango, also known as Windows Phone 7.5, targeted to revolutionize Microsoft's mobile platform, less than one year after it was launched. On Wednesday, the software giant started to upload Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, which is the first to grab the mobile software upgrade, the update includes 500 new features, some more significant than others. Some of the more notable inclusions are custom ringtones, new speech commands, threads in emails and text messages, conversation view and linked inboxes. Users are allowed publish to social networks from the phone and have the ability to collect contacts into groups. Multitasking has also been introduced, a long-awaited feature. Updates to the calendar contain the addition of multiple accounts, with Mango now enabling video sharing, picture tagging and the ability to save different cameras settings. In addition, users can now sync with SkyDrive while more updates have been introduced to the Office Hub and the mobile version of Excel. Users can now use Windows Phone smartphone as mobile hotspots to connect to other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

The software giant’s mobile operation system is not as successful as its pc operation system; some surveys indicated that Windows Phone OS only took about 10 percent of the smartphone market. Earlier this year, the world’s largest handsets maker—Nokia announced that it will replace its own Symbian OS with Windows Phone, which made the operation system famous. Then the news broke a number of other smartphone makers such as HTC, Samsung and ZTE have also announced future high-end devices running the Mango OS.

Microsoft has disclosed that it plans to form a cross-licensing partnership with Samsung—the Android loyalist. Meanwhile, the software giant shed light on the agreement this week which is akin to Samsung’s patent deals with other Android backers. The deal will have Samsung pay-per-device royalties for mobile phones and tablets running Android. Currently, the software maker has eight cross-licensing agreements with other Android backers such as Acer, General Dynamics Itronix, Onkyo, Velocity Micro, ViewSonic, Wistron, HTC and Samsung.

Microsoft wrote in one of its blog post: “gives both companies greater patent coverage relating to each other’s technologies, and opens the door to a deeper partnership in the development of new phones for the Windows Phone platform.”

The cooperation may mean that Samsung will shift its focus toward creating more high-end Windows powered smartphones in the future for Google has sealed its agreement with hardware Motorola. Microsoft and Samsung agreed to develop and market Windows Phone. The deal could be a breath of fresh air to Microsoft who has been struggling to keep Nokia afloat.
